Abstract

N.V. Gogol is a recognized classic of Russian literature and one of the founders of realism. He left a big mark on Russian literature. Born in 1809 on March 20 in the Poltava province in an ordinary family of a simple landowner. Gogol is the author of many famous works. In the 30s of the XIX century, Gogol wrote a number of stories from Petersburg life, which were fully included in the collection entitled “Petersburg Tales”. The cycle includes stories: "Nevsky Prospekt", "The Nose", "Portrait", "Carriage", "A Mad Man's Note" and "Overcoat". In this cycle, the writer depicts the life and customs of the inhabitants of St. Petersburg, tries to understand the peculiarities of the psychology of his heroes. The basis for them is the theme of a little man, crushed by the way of life around him.
