Abstract

The increasing role of cities in the development of society has been observed throughout the history of mankind. Especially in the 20th century, it began to develop rapidly both vertically and horizontally. New peculiar features appeared in quantitative, qualitative forms and in its territorial development. At present, the urban population of the planet is about 55 percent, and this figure is growing year after year: if in the first 50 years of the XIX century it grew by 50 million, and in the first half of the XX century by 500 million, then over the last 50 years by 2.5 billion.
